Carling Cup Semi Final (2nd Leg) 27/01/10

Manchester United secured their place in the final of the Carling Cup with a 3-1 win over bitter rivals Manchester City. Manchester United, the cup holders, will play Aston Villa at Wembley on 28th February 2010.

The first half saw the teams very closely matched with few chances and it was no surprise to so the sides go in at half time at 0-0.

In the second half the game came alive and Manchester United took the lead in the 56th minute when Paul Scholes drilled home a shot into the bottom corner of the net beating the Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given.

Manchester United could sense victory and another Wembley final and in the 71st minute they added a second goal when Michael Carrick's shot went in off a post.

But there was yet to be a twist in the tale. Former Manchester United player Carlos Tevez pulled a goal back for City in the 76th minute when he turned in a Craig Bellamy cross from an acute angle.

The match looked to be headed for extra time before the brilliant Wayne Rooney headed in a cross from Ryan Giggs to put Manchester United into the final.

Premier League 23/01/10

Manchester United went to the top of the Premier League with a comfortable 4-0 win against Hull City with the brilliant Wayne Rooney scoring all four goals.

Rooney opened the scoring after 8 minutes when he latched on to a rebound from the Hull goalkeeper following a fierce Paul Scholes shot.

The score remained 1-0 at the break and it wasn't until the 82nd minute that Rooney added a second goal. Minutes later he completed his hat-trick when he headed home a beautiful cross from Nani.

Rooney scored his and United's fourth in stoppage time when he drilled home a shot from inside the box leaving the Old Trafford crowd chanting his name.

Carling Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg

At this enthralling game at Eastlands Manchester United took the lead after 15 minutes when Valencia found space on the right and fired in a cross to Wayne Rooney. City goolkepper Shay Given was only able to parry Rooney's shot into the path of Ryan Giggs who tapped in from 2 yards.

Manchester City began to find their feet as the first half progressed and were awarded a controversial penalty just before the break when Rafael was judged to have pulled Bellamy's shirt inside the penalty box. Manchester United old boy, Carlos Tevez stepped up to smash the penalty past the helpless Van Der Sar.

In the second half poor defensive play from Manchester United led to a second Manchester City goal when Tevez headed home from close range. Manchester United tried desperately to fight back but the City defensive held out to secure their team victory. They take their 2-1 advantage to Old Trafford for the second leg on 27 January 2010.

Premier League 16/01/10

Manchester United started the game nervously and although they had most of the possession in the first half it was Burnley who had the best chance. However, the teams were 0-0 at the break and it was Manchester United who took the lead when Berbatov forced a left foot shot home with the help of a deflection. Wayne Rooney soon added a second goal to calm United's nerves and it was left to Diouf to add a third on his Old Trafford debut.

Premier League 09/01/10

Manchester United needed an own goal from Birmingham defender Scott Dann to escape with a 1-1 draw at St Andrew's.

Birmingham took the lead after 39 minutes when Manchester United failed to clear a corner and Cameron Jerome struck the ball past Tomasz Kuszczak, the United keeper.

United equalised in the 63rd minute when Dann turned an Evra shot into his own net.

United finished the game with 10 men when Darren Fletcher was sent off for a second bookable offence.

FA Cup 3rd - 03/01/2010

Manchester United crashed out the FA Cup with a 1-0 defeat by their bitter rivals Leeds United. The only goal of the game came in the 19th when Leeds United star Jermaine Beckford ran on to a long threw ball and slotted home past the Manchester United keeper at the Stretford End.

It is the first time Manchester United have been knocked out in the 3rd round of the FA Cup during managerSir Alex Ferguson's 23 year reign. The last time was 1984.

Sir Alex Ferguson was openly critical of his side's performance and promised to make changes for Manchester United's next game against Manchester City in the first leg semi final of the Carling Cup on Wednesday 06/01/2010.

Premier League - 30/12/09

Manchester United ended 2009 with a 5 – 0 thrashing of Wigan with Wayne Rooney once again delivering a masterclass. On a freezing night at Old Trafford Manchester United pulled within two points of leaders Chelsea and two points ahead of third placed Arsenal who have a game in hand.

Former Wigan star Antonio Valencia also had a fantastic game making three assists and scoring one, the final Premier League goal of 2009.

Wayne Rooney scored the first Manchester United goal arriving at the near post to meet Rafael Da Silva's cross and slot it past Kirkland, the Wigan goalkeeper.
Michael Carrick and Rafael added a second and third goal by half time. Berbatov and Valencia completed the rout with second half goals.
