Hull City 1 Manchester United 3

Premier League - 27/12/09

Wayne Rooney was instrumental every step of the way in Manchester United’s 3-1 victory at Hull. Rooney scored on the stroke of half time to give Manchester United the lead at the break at the KC Stadium. In typical Rooney fashion he got on the end of a cross in the six yard box flashing the ball past the helpless keeper.
However within 15 minutes of the second half a poor Rooney back pass gifted Hull a route back in the game with the mistake leading to a penalty that was superbly taken by Craig Fagan for Hull’s equaliser.

The England striker then took the game by the scruff of the neck and a brilliant run and cross forced an own goal from Andy Dawson to make it 2-1 to Manchester United. To round off an excellent performance Rooney set up a third goal for strike partner Dimitar Berbatov to make the final score Manchester United 3 Hull City 1.

After their recent injury problems Manchester United welcomed back three defenders in Rafael da Silva, Wes Brown and Nemanja Vidic. giving the team a much more balanced look as Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick were able to return to midfield while Ryan Giggs and Berbatov also came back in their familiar roles.

Manchester United’s next Premier League game is against Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford.
