Manchester City 0 Manchester United 1

Premier League 17/04/2010

Manchester United closed to within 1 point of league leaders Chelsea after beating Manchester City at Eastlands.

Paul Scholes had a brilliant afternoon and sealed victory with a powerful header past City Keeper Shay Given into the bottom corner of the net in the 93rd minutes with just 17 seconds remaining on the clock.

The game proved to be a typical derby with very little to choose between the two sides. At times, the game was tense with neither side creating many clear cut chances.

However, United veteran Paul Scholes who has just signed a new 1 year contract, controlled the midfield and it was fitting that he should provide the late, late winner.

Manchester United's dream of winning the Prenmier League for a record fourth consecutive year took a major blow when they were held to a goaless draw by Blackburn.

Despite controlling much of the possession United lacked any cutting edge. Wayne Rooney was out with injury and Berbatov played the striker role.

Chelsea remain top 1 point ahead of United with a game in hand. Arsenal are in 3rd place.

Champions League QF 2nd Leg 07/04/2010 (4 - 4 agg) Bayern win on away goals

Manchester United got off to a blistering start and were 2 - 0 up after just 7 minutes. Darren Gibson opened the scoring with a terrific shot from a Wayne Rooney lay off. Nani added a second shortly afterwards flicking in a Valencia cross. Nani was again the scorer of United's 3rd goal with a spectacular shot into the top corner of the German's net.

However Bayern Munich staged a fight back before half time and deservedly scored just before the break. The tie turned just a few minutes into the second half when United defender Rafael was sent off for a second bookable offence leavinghis team with just 10 men.

Ex-Chelsea player Robben scored Bayern's second with a fantastic volley sending his side into the semi-finals on the away goals rule.
